Straight Up Ventura County is a youth development project promoting social change regarding underage and binge drinking among 15 – 25 year olds through Reality Improv, Social Change Theatre, community organizing and environmental prevention strategies. www.straightupvc.org. “ARTesia” facilitates free weekly expressive arts workshops in West Ventura for women and children who are in recovery from domestic violence. In these peaceful, healing, and safe environment we desire to see women and children recover their sense of esteem and power through the creative process, while accelerating their healing process. We have seen art unlock blocked areas of peoples hearts during the expressive sessions, and personal expressions bubble forth and where there is difficulty verbalizing emotions they would put their thoughts and feelings into colors on canvas, sculpted clay, or other creative means.
