UPCOMING EVENTS AT KIDS’ARTS

Kid’s Arts at the WAV
Festival of Talent Mask and Performance Project
Festival of Talent Feb 23rd
Rounding out 2012

Before taking our holiday vacation KA ended December with a fun jewelry making workshop with artist Maribel Hernandez. Scrap paper was transformed into garlands for trees and necklaces for gifts!

Kids’ Arts participation in the Harbor Gallery’s 5th Annual Ornament Competition culminated in a reception and award ceremony on December 15th at the gallery. Big thanks to all who were involved and those who purchased the beautiful pasta inspired ornaments! The proceeds from the sales benefited Ventura Education Partnership’s Art Collaborative, a great committee helping to keep arts in the classrooms of VUSD. Great job, kids! And congrats to KA Program Director Jerrica Van Nest for taking third prize in the adult division of the ornament competition!

WAV Collaborative Program

Working Artists of Ventura (WAV), is a live/work community in downtown Ventura. Photographers, painters and performers alike share a space to support and promote the arts in our community. The Kids’ Arts collaboration with WAV is a way to connect our participants with guest artists in the beautiful WAV property located at 175 S. Ventura Avenue. Our families meet at the WAV gallery for a special art class on the second Saturday every other month.

New Teacher Spotlight

Welcome Susan Compton Smith!

Hello, my name is Susan, and I am so excited to be teaching at Kids’ Arts! I have loved the performing arts since the first time I set foot on a stage (I believe I was 4 years old), and I am deeply passionate about both theatre and education. I have been teaching theatre locally at the middle school level for a number of years, and I am delighted at this opportunity to share my knowledge and passion with the students at Kids’ Arts. In my classes we will explore many aspects of performance through storytelling, improvisation and theatre games, as well as exploring movement for stage with a bit of music and dance. I am looking forward to meeting everyone, and I will see you at the Art Barn!
Susan graduated With Honors from Ventura College in December 1993 with an Associate of Science Degree in Theatre Arts and an Associate of Arts Degree in General & Liberal Arts.
